Air conditioning

Air conditioning re-gas and repair

If the air con isn’t as cold as it was, the system has usually lost refrigerant, either gradually or through a leak. We re-gas, pressure-test for leaks and repair the cause, on both older R134a and newer R1234yf systems. Cars and vans, both branches.

What we do

Re-gas. We remove the old refrigerant, vacuum-test the system, recharge it to the correct weight and add fresh oil and dye so any future leak is easy to spot.

Leak detection & repair. If it’s losing gas quickly, we pressure-test and trace the leak, commonly a condenser, a pipe union or a compressor seal, and quote the repair.

Odour treatment. A musty smell when you switch on usually means bacteria in the evaporator. We can treat it and fit a fresh cabin filter.

Questions

Air conditioning

How often should air con be re-gassed?

Every 2–3 years as a guide, systems lose a little refrigerant each year. Sooner than that suggests a leak to find.

Why isn’t my air con cold any more?

Usually low refrigerant, but it can also be a failed compressor, a blocked condenser or an electrical fault. We test to find out which.

Do you handle newer R1234yf systems?

Yes, both R134a and the newer R1234yf gas used on cars from around 2017.

My air con smells musty. Can you fix that?

Yes. It’s bacteria in the evaporator. We treat the system and fit a fresh cabin filter.
